For the most part, quarantine has been a struggle. I can barely see my friends. I have little to no social life. Heck! I can’t even walk into Whole Foods without a mask on. The point that I am trying to make is that quarantine has changed our way of life, as humans.
Going into quarantine, I thought that I would save so much more money now that I could not leave the house. I have, however, saved a lot of money on food from not eating out. With some extra money, I made some pretty questionable online purchases.
Some of the purchases have been totally worth it and others not so much.
Today, I will break down my 3 worst purchases during quarantine so that you don’t make the same mistakes that I did.
1. Nintendo Switch
I got to admit it…at the beginning of quarantine, I was really bored. I had absolutely nothing to do. I was sick of Netflix. I was tired of watching the same Tik Toks on my 4u Page.
Therefore, I completely fell into the hype of the Nintendo Switch. When I purchased it, I thought nothing of the price. All I thought of was my brain being completely bored.
At the time of my purchase, the Switch was marked up close to $100. Thanks to Youtube creator Shelby Church, I finally found out that I was completely scammed.
The Switch does not come with any games at all. So, me being me, I bought some games to go along with the Switch. My new toy was ending up being a $500 purchase altogether.
I was not obsessed with it at all. I got absolutely no use out of it. I was pretty much bored, again, after a couple of days.
All in all, terrible purchase.
2. Masks From Anywhere
At the beginning of the quarantine, masks were hard to come by…really hard to come by.
There seemed to be no good masks available for the public. All of the very protective masks were being saved for workers on the frontlines and rightfully so.
As my search for good masks turned up nothing, I had to resort to masks that were sold by people on Etsy.
I bought a total of five masks each from three different companies. My mistake? I didn’t do any research.
When I received the fifteen masks that I had ordered, I immediately did the “water test” on them by running cold water through the mask to see if the water would seep through.
To my dismay, the water ran through all of the masks.
My biggest piece of advice is to do your research before making any dumb purchases as I did.
At the end of the day, the masks were a complete waste of money.
3. Cheap Office Chair
I decided to purchase a modern-looking office chair for my home office. However, I did not want to spend a lot so I kept my budget very small.
Since I was going to be working there most of the day, I thought that I needed an upgrade. So, I decided to purchase the exact chair in the picture above for my home office.
Boy, was this a horrible purchase.
Once I got the chair, I realized that the material was very cheap and the chair even made a creaking noise when I sat in it.
Now, I was stuck with the chair and I am still forced to use it to this day.
My piece of advice for you is to splurge on an office chair.
Do not make the same mistake that I made. Trust you will regret it.
Overall, I have learned so many from my horrible quarantine purchases. Things that I thought would have been entertaining were not. Things that I would look good didn't.
The main piece of knowledge that I learned from these awful purchases was to always do your research. No matter the product or situation.
